A little over 6,000 people in this little town I find myself living in. It is the smallest town I have ever lived in. Although I can probably count on one hand the number...Casper, Seoul, Tacoma, Rock Springs and now Douglas. Add the two towns I was deployed to...Wurzberg and Ft. Meade and now I need two hands. Now after living in the pit of the world in Rock Springs I find myself in a heavenly little town. The kind of town where the librarian knows your name and actually uses it. The kind of town that has a locally owned grocery store where they refuse to allow you to carry out your own groceries. The kind of town that has an old fashioned Ice Cream Parlor that sells foot high ice cream cones for a $1.50. The kind of town that has Monday Movie Night on the lawn in Locomotive Park...showing westerns. People actually speak to you and are genuinely nice. But like all small towns, it is hard to keep a secret here. Do I like this town better than Pike Place Market in Seattle? No, but I definitely enjoy it far more than Rock Springs! And every day I find one more little thing that makes this town even more.
